[Locked to Revan] Revan, I think this is a manifestation of whatever the Rift did to me. You seem to have the most background in this sort of thing. Do you think you might be able to help me learn to control it? I was alone this time, but if it happens again, I might hurt someone.[/Locked]
I'm heading down to the training room to practice for a while. Please feel free to join me if you have the time.
Rank: Major General
Military: Egyptian Army
Serial number: 5965-0708-1365
Gate trip diverted en route to M6Q-437, emerged in basement of Conrad Hotel, Chicago, United States. Phenomenon known as Rift, interdimensional one-way gateway. Have claimed room #28 as temporary quarters and personal storage.
Offered assistance to Cpt. Harkness, accepted into organization Torchwood, status pending. Suitable substitute for SGC/Atlantis.
Met guardian angel named Eloi Laurent, may share similar ancestors, more research required. Am told I am his new Ward; not enough first-hand exp. to say more. Probable ally.
Conversed with local girl Rose Tyler, also Wanderer. Potential traveling companion, making tentative plans for trip to Egypt, pending future events. Very friendly and helpful.
"You, you, and you... panic. The rest of you, come with me." - Being assigned to a new base, far away from anyone you know, can be tough enough. Now Daniel isn't even in his own reality anymore, and none of his fellow soldiers have come through the Rift. One lone soldier has no purpose, no driving goal, no one to share the burden. These are his comrades, his brothers in arms, those that he will fight alongside and die for, if necessary. [Eloi Laurent/paranoideloi, Revan Onasi/curtainfalling, multiple openings, any gender]
"May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." - Give him a good reason, point him at a target, and he won't stop until that target is gone. This person represents everything that Daniel opposes, morally and otherwise. [Missy Ashford/technicallyiam, one more opening, any gender]
"When the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is not our friend." - Thanks to his military upbringing, Daniel can seem unfeeling and harsh. He needs someone to break through his serious exterior and remind him that life doesn't have to be all war and battle, and that it is okay to laugh and relax once in a while. [Rose Tyler/belle_heaven, multiple openings, any gender]
"A slipping gear could let your M203 grenade launcher fire when you least expect it. That would make you quite unpopular in what's left of your unit." - Sometimes, Daniel gets too focused on the bigger picture and neglects the details. Generally, that sort of thing is inadvisable, and it's a good idea to have someone to help catch what he might miss. [Eloi Laurent/paranoideloi, opening for one other character, any gender]
- Name: Daniel Jackson
- Birthdate: July 8, 1965
- Species: Human (Wanderer)
- -Type: Can manipulate gravitational fields and see through solid objects. However, his control of these abilities is sporadic.
- Canon: Stargate SG-1 (canon alternate universe)
- Played By: Michael Shanks
- Appearance: Six feet tall, blue eyes, short brown hair, wears glasses. Moderately muscular build. Prefers to wear his offworld battle uniform when appropriate, and wears a Kevlar vest underneath his civvies. Has a stylized phoenix tattoo on his upper back between the shoulder blades.
- Personality: Takes his duty very seriously, and follows orders unless he has a very good reason not to. His first reaction to meeting new cultures is often one of caution instead of open friendliness, and seeks to find sources of possible danger before even partially relaxing his guard. Loves to read and learn new things on his own free time, and has an aptitude for languages that he has not spent much time pursuing. Does not trust easily, but once a person has earned that trust, he will remain loyal and faithful unless betrayed. Does not anger easily.
- History: Daniel Jackson was born in Egypt to a world-renowned pair of archaeologists, Melburn and Claire Jackson. A near-fatal accident in the New York Museum of Art drove him away from the family business, and at age 18 he enlisted in the Egyptian Army to serve his required three years as an Egyptian citizen. At the end of those three years, he decided to sign on for further active duty and become career military.
In 1996, Daniel was promoted to Colonel and loaned to the Blue Book Project in the United States in order to monitor American research of a mysterious Egyptian artifact. This artifact was the Stargate, and once a connection with Abydos was established, Colonel Jackson and Colonel Jack O'Neill joint-led an exploration team to make contact with the locals. The two colonels resented each other's presence, and clashed constantly during the mission. Daniel eventually slayed Ra with a staff weapon, which Ra had intended him to use to kill O'Neill and their men, earning him grudging respect from the other man. Jackson was offered a local girl named Sha'uri as a gift, but declined to marry her, inadvertantly causing her to be disgraced. To compensate for his cultural faux pas, he appointed Sha'uri as liason between Abydos and Earth, and established a flow of trade between the two planets, including information such as a list of Stargate addresses.
Colonel O'Neill was given command of SG-1, consisting of Major Kawalsky, Major Feretti, and Captain Freeman, who were the only other survivors of the first mission. Daniel was given command of SG-2, consisting of Major Asim Fahd, Major Derrik Reynolds, and Captain Samantha Carter. Very few civilians were accepted into the SGC, and technological acquisitions were always mission priorities. Though they heard about them often, the SGC rarely encountered sarcophagi and it was extremely uncommon for SGC personnel to come back from death, though it did happen from time to time.
In 2002, O'Neill was promoted to General and became leader of the SGC. Around this time, the forces of Earth focused on annihilating the System Lords. Rumors circulated of a more powerful Goa'uld named Anubis, but he never surfaced to confront them. Within two years, the Goa'uld as a species were largely wiped out as well as their Jaffa servants.
In 2004, the location of Atlantis was discovered, and Daniel was promoted to General in order to lead the expedition. Mostly cut off from Earth, the Atlantis team was forced to rely on nearby planets for supplies, leading to their discovery by the Wraith. While the Wraith were largely dormant, several moderately-sized factions took it upon themselves to fight the Lantean humans, unwilling to see their food source advance technologically yet again. Several years into the war, a strange anomaly began pulling energy out of their universe and into a neighboring reality. Daniel appointed Dr. Rodney "Rod" McKay, one of the few civilians on base, to travel through the anomaly and shut it down (as seen in the Atlantis episode "McKay and Mrs. Miller"). Several weeks after this event, a Wraith was captured alive offworld, and General Jackson intended to interrogate it personally. Upon entering the wormhole, however, he found himself pulled away into the Rift.
- Writing Sample:
Daniel gripped the staff weapon tightly, the twisted-up Ancient Egyptian ringing in his ears as he walked down the ramp. The four surviving men knelt at his feet, looking up at him with a mix of confusion and hatred. The look on Colonel O'Neill's face was particularly cold, although that was nothing special. The man was a jackass, but he didn't deserve to die.
"Kill them!" the guard repeated, sounding annoyed. His face was still hidden behind the jackal's head helmet, however, so it was possible that this was how he always sounded. "I command you to strike them down."
"Sure thing," Daniel muttered in English, and without missing a beat, he turned and shot Ra right in the face. A roar went up, and the gathered crowd surged forward, much to the dismay of the panicking guards.
